Osvaldas Švitra, CEO of cargoGO: AI solutions from Fleethand boost efficiency

As operating costs rise and pressure to improve efficiency grows in the transportation sector, more and more companies are turning to artificial intelligence solutions to automate their processes. Osvaldas Švitra, CEO and board member of cargoGO Logistics and cargoGO Group, says that AI tools are already helping to plan routes more efficiently, optimize managers’ work, and more easily manage the company’s rapid expansion.

Having used Fleethand’s advanced vehicle tracking and management system for three years, cargoGO began using Fleethand’s AI-based functionality a few months ago, which helps automate part of the daily work of transport managers.

Just a few months in, and they’re already seeing noticeable results.

The AI-based functionality developed by Fleethand handles tasks such as route planning, automatic planning of fuel stops and parking, document verification, and some of the operational communication with drivers. The daily operational routine of transport managers is being shifted to technology so that people can focus more on strategic decisions.

“We see that automated processes allow a single manager to effectively manage a larger number of trucks. This is especially important now that we are expanding and adding 200 more trucks to our fleet. We estimate that AI solutions will increase the productivity of transport managers by at least 20 percent each year,” says O. Švitra.

Currently, cargoGO has about 800 trucks equipped with Fleethand telematics solutions. Approximately 50 employees use Fleethand solutions, and 35 transport managers use them on a daily basis.

– What were your first impressions after starting to use the new AI-based features of Fleethand?

– As a tech enthusiast myself, I see great value in this. One feature that the team quickly appreciated in practice was automatic language translation. A driver can record a voice message in their own language, and the manager receives the translation instantly. In an international team, this significantly reduces communication barriers.

This feature is incredibly useful for our company, as we have drivers from all over the world who speak dozens of different languages. I’d say it also gives us a competitive advantage, especially as we’re expanding rapidly into international markets.

– In which everyday situations have AI solutions been most beneficial to the team?

– Another major benefit we’ve gained from Fleethand is fuel stop planning. Fuel is a crucial part of a transportation company’s operations, and this is even more important today, as fuel prices have risen sharply due to geopolitical factors. Artificial intelligence analyzes the route and fuel prices in different countries, selecting the optimal gas stations and calculating how much to refuel at each stop—so that in an expensive country, we refuel only as much as needed to reach a country with more favorable prices. This allows for effective cost management without compromising process quality.

In the past, the more experienced a manager was, the better they planned fuel usage. Now, however, thanks to artificial intelligence, the likelihood of anyone making a mistake when choosing a gas station is significantly lower.

Optimizing processes helps us more quickly find and integrate a new transport manager into our workflows. They need far less time to adapt, as planning with artificial intelligence is significantly simpler.

– How has the day-to-day work of managers changed since the introduction of AI solutions?

– The features provided by Fleethand can certainly improve a transport manager’s efficiency. The idea is that the manager can oversee more trucks because the system operates so efficiently that it doesn’t significantly increase their workload.

– What prospects does the company itself see in using Fleethand’s AI-based solutions?

– We have set a goal to increase the productivity of our transport managers by at least 20 percent each year. So far, it looks like we’ll be able to achieve this with the help of Fleethand.

This year, we are expanding our fleet by 200 additional trucks. In the area of management, the focus is on increasing efficiency: using artificial intelligence, we are optimizing processes so that our current staff can handle the growing volume of work without a proportional increase in resources.

– What would you recommend to other companies that are still considering whether to use AI-based features?

– Given that infrastructure and operating costs are rising rapidly every year, failing to adopt technology-based solutions that are easy to implement and generate significant value would be a critical business mistake. In such a case, there is a real risk of becoming uncompetitive in the market.

Furthermore, when a company modernizes its processes using artificial intelligence, it becomes easier to attract young and qualified professionals—employees want to work at innovative companies.

The most important thing is to have the courage to try new things. And if you’re still hesitant, you can opt for solutions that have already been proven in the market. Fleethand can offer precisely such solutions to transportation companies.
